PURPOSE:To enhance the vibration damping effect of a vehicle, by adjusting the damping force of a shock absorber in accordance with the direction of relative displacement of the shock absorber, and by changing over the damping force in accordance with the running condition of the vehicle when there is any relative displacement in the neutral range. CONSTITUTION:Displacement detecting means 2a through 2b are attached to shock absorbers 6a through 6b of variable damping force type, respectively. When the relative displacement of the shock absorber is in the direction away from the neutral position, the damping force is decreased while when it is in the direction toward the neutral position, the damping force is increased. Further, when there is any relative displacement in the neutral range which is set around the neutral position with a predetermined width, the damping force is changed over in accordance with the running condition of the vehicle such as, for example, vehicle speed. |
