PURPOSE:To obtain a transparent plastic lens having a high refractive index comparable to that of a glass lens as well as superior heat resistance and workability by copolymerizing a specified (meth)acrylate compound with a specified percentage of a radical-polymerizable multifunctional monomer and other monomer. CONSTITUTION:A (meth)acrylate compound represented by formula I (where R is H or CH3, X is halogen other than F, Y is -CH2-CH2-, -CH2-CH2-CH2- or a group represented by formula II, III or IV, l=0-1, m=0-5, and n=0-5) is copolymerized with a mixture of >=20wt% multifunctional monomer having two or more radical-polymerizable groups such as divinylbenzene or diallyl phthalate with a monofunctional monomer such as styrene or (meth)acrylate. A lens is made of the resulting copolymer. This transparent plastic lens for spectacles or the like has >=1.63 refractive index comparable to that of a glass lens as well as superior heat resistance and workability. |
