An input video signal is the type containing superimposed and freq. sseparated luminance and chrominance signals. To record, the signal is applied to a comb filter comprising a delay line, an adder, and a subtractor. The filter separates the signal into luminance and chrominance parts which are applied to the recording heads. To play, the signals from the tape pass through a signal conditioner and emerge as luminance and chrominance components which are then added to produce a video signal. By correction switching, this signal is applied to the filter and separated as before.
