PURPOSE:To enable high density coupling, and to miniaturize an optical commu nication equipment and improve the degree of integration thereof by integrating a plurality of monolithic LEDs onto the same substrate in a close-packed latticed manner and only comparing the LEDs with the end surface of an optical fiber bundle. CONSTITUTION:Monolithic LEDs 1 are disposed onto an Si single crystal sub strate 2 in a hexagonal close-packed latticed manner through a known IC tech nique. Optical signals can be transmitted over optical fiber transmission paths 3 through lenses 4 while using the optical IC circuit device 5 as a light-emitting source. When the diameter of a fiber takes 140mum, the LEDs can be arranged in the hexagonal close-packed latticed manner of a lattice constant of 140mum. According to the constitution, chips and the axes of optical fibers are conformed, and only end surfaces are faced one another, thus simply coupling both, then transmitting the same information in large capacitance by the LEDs having the same constitution, provided that a small-sized device having the high degree of integration is obtained. |
