PURPOSE:To provide a light transmittable fiber which is higher in thermal deformation resistant temp. and thermal decomposition resistance than a methacrylic resin and has excellent light transmittability and other properties by consisting of said fiber of two units; methyl methacrylate unit and N-allyl maleimide unit. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer for a core component is produced by suspension, block or soln. polymn. of a monomomer mixture composed of methyl methacrylate and N-allyl maleimide in accordance with the conventional practice. A polymn. device to be used for the production of the copolymer for the core component is not particularly limited and is preferably selected from a complete mixing type reaction vessel, plug flow type reactor and the combination thereof. The polymer for a sleeve component is selected from the polymer of the fluorinated alcohol ester of methacrylic acid and others. A block polymn. is more preferable as the polymn. method to yield the product having high purity. The fiber is hardly usable in practicability if the difference in the refractive index between both components is <1% and the fiber does not transmit light if said difference is larger than 1%.
