The invention relates to an apparatus for feeding material into a vertical screw conveyor at the lower end of the latter. The feed arrangement is formed by a short screw conveyor which is arranged at one side of and parallel to the main screw conveyor. A feed duct, through which the material is pressed into the main screw conveyor from the feed arrangement, is formed between the tubular casings of the screw conveyors.
