Glycerides are extracted from oil-contg. plant material by (a) mixing the plant material with a basic substance, (b) pelletting the mixt., and (c) extracting the pellets with a solvent for glycerides. Pref. the basic substance is a (hydro)oxide or carbonate (pref.) of an alkali(ne earth) or NH4, esp. Na2CO3, and is used in 0-300% excess. The base may be added together with water, to the plant material. The plant material may be flaked, oil-contg. seed, contg. at least 20% of triglyceride. The material has 10-25 (not more than 12%) moisture content, and may be dried to 6-9% moisture. Extn. is with hexane.
|
