PURPOSE:To provide automatic fastening of bolt and nut by providing a clamping member of bolt and nut, a nut runner, a base for mounting the runner and an actuator of moving the clamping member of bolt and nut in an automatic fastener. CONSTITUTION:When a base 54 is in the early position at the left lower portion in the drawing, a nut 18 is sent to an end of a pin 30 and a bolt 80 is clamped by a bolt clamping member 68. Then, the base 54 is moved to a position shown in the drawing and then moved until a reaction receiver 74 abuts against a bracket 12. In this case, if the hexagonal outer peripheral contour of the nut 18 coincides with the inner peripheral contour of a hexagonal portion 20 in the peripheral phase, the nut 18 fits in the hexagonal portion 20 by the contraction of a spring 34. Next, an air cylinder 56 is operated to withdraw a slide rod 60 toward the air cylinder 56 and shift the bolt clamping member 68 leftward so that the shaft portion of the bolt 80 passes through bolt inserting holes in the bracket 12 and a boss 14 to be fitted in the nut 18.
