<p>An annular joint between tubular components of a sleeve for enclosing a splice in an electric or telephone cable features an annular rib (12) on the interface of one component and a corresponding channel (13) in the interface of the other component (1b) where the outer walls (17,180 of rib and channel are parallel to the sleeve axis but the other faces (12a,14a) are inclined relative to the axis and converge at the root of the rib profiles, where the width (B) of the base of the rib section matches the width of the mouth (15) of the channel. The inner wall (14) of the channel is sufficiently thin to be flexible and, like the rib (12) and channel (13) profiles, pref. has a trapezoidal section. The channel wall (14a) is precoated with a sealant mastic (16) to a thickness of not less than the clearance (d) between the crest (12b) of the rib and surface of (14a). The clearance (E) between the crest (12b) of the rib (12) and the root surface of the channel (13) is sufficient to contain mastic progressively displaced from (14a) as (12) is inserted so that the space between (12b) and 13) becomes at least partially bridged by displaced mastic.</p> |
