A vertically adjustable holder for attaching items to wall panelling systems, having a panel which can be attached to a wall via spacers and whose holding device consists of a basic holder which grips towards the rear around the panel at its side edge and engages with one or more pins in bores at the back of the panel. The basic holder has a front and a rear bearing surface which bears in each case against the front or rear surface of the panel respectively, the rear bearing surface extending further upwards than the front bearing surface. The holding devices can be mounted easily without any attachment parts lying within the field of view of the viewer. <IMAGE>
