摘要 <p>It has been difficult to cut amorphous alloys without forming a burr or detracting from the magnetic properties of the alloys. These problems may be overcome by placing an amorphous article in the path of a heating source which may be applied at a very high rate. A bundle of amorphous alloy ribbons (14) is held between clamps (10, 12, 16, 18) and bent over central supports (32, 34). This puts strong tensile forces on the top strip (24). A high energy beam (28) is emitted from a source (26) along a portion of the top strip (24) to sever it. A suitable beam (28) is either an electron beam or a laser beam. Other rapid heating means include a hot wire heating source, a hot gas source, and resistance self heating.</p>
