Electrical switchgear apparatus includes a circuit breaker unit enclosed in a first insulating-gas filled grounded tank; a disconnecting switch enclosed in a second insulating-gas filled grounded tank; a lightning arrester; and a grounding switch, characterised in that the first tank (20) and the second tank (24) are connected together in end-to-end relation with a gas seal between them, a third insulating gas-filled grounded tank (28) is connected to the second tank on the side thereof opposite to the first tank and with a gas seal between them, the grounding switch includes a fourth tank (34) connected to the third tank on the side thereof opposite to the second tank and the lightning arrester includes a fifth tank (40) connected to the third tank.
