PURPOSE:To produce L-phenylalanine, easily in high yield, in the process for the microbial production of the titled substance, by treating phenylpyruvic acid and an amino group donor with Actinomycetes belonging to Nocardia genus. CONSTITUTION:Actinomycetes belonging to Nocardia genus and capable of producing L-phenylalanine from phenylpyruvic acid and an amino group donor, e.g. Nocardia coeliaca C-7-5, Nocardia erythropolis C-6-2, Nocardia opaca C-8-5, etc. is cultured. The obtained culture liquid or living cells are made to contact with an aqueous solution containing phenylpyruvic acid and an amino group donor. The amino group donor is e.g. ammonia, ammonium acetate, ammonium chloride, L-amino acid, etc. After removing the microbial cells from the reaction liquid, the objective L-phenylalanine is separated by ion exchange resin treatment, crystallization, etc. |
