1300097 Laminating; seaming MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 3 Feb 1970 [3 Feb 1969 10 Sept 1969] 5066/70 Headings B5M and B5N A process for the adhesion of elastomers in which layers of vulcanized butyl rubber and/or layers of vulcanized elastomeric copolymers and/or terpolymers of ethylene, an α-olefin other than ethylene and where a terpolymer or polyene have interposed therebetween a thermoplastic layer of polymer and/or copolymer, free of polar substituents or reactive groups of ethylene, propylene and/or butane and the assembly is heated under pressure. Specified α-olefines are propylene and butene-1. Specified polyenes are dicyclopentadiene, cyclooctadiene, 1 : 4 - hexadiene, 6 - methyl - 4,7,8,9 - tetrahydroindene and ethylidene-norbornene. Specified thermoplastics are isotactic polypropylene, polyethylene and block copolymers of propylene with ethylene and/or butene. The thermoplastic material may be applied as a melt in the form of a film, ribbon or strip. The application of heat and pressure may be effected continuously, e.g. by heated calender rolls or discontinuously, e.g. by heated platens, the thermoplast being preferably fed to the rollers direct from an extruder. In a preferred embodiment, elastomeric sheets bearing welded strips of the thermoplast are used. |
