POLYMER-CARBON BLACK MIXING

A composition comprising carbon black and two or more curable polymers selected from C4-5 conjugated diolefin-containing synthetic polymers and natural rubber, is prepared by the separate steps (i) forming a mixture of at least 60% by weight of the carbon black with one or more C4-5 conjugated diolefin-containing synthetic poiymers in an amount of from 33 to 60% by weight of the total weight of the curable polymers, and (ii) adding the remainder of the curable polymers and any remaining carbon black to the mixture. Such a composition may be mixed with cure active agents, shaped and heated to produce a vulcanisate having very satisfactory properties.
