The spacer radical for conjugating the chromogen to the ligand is derived from a dicarboxylic acid and selected from the group consisting of radicals having the following structural formulae -CO-R-CO- (I), -NH-NH-CO-R-CO- (II) or -NH-NH-CO-R-CO-NH-NH- (III) where R is selected from the group consisting of (un)substd. divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals having no more than 13 C. - The chromogen is a fluorescein dye, R may be 2C alkylene group the ligand may be digoxigenin or L-thyroxine.
