PREPARATION PROCESS OF A 3(4H)-QUINAZOLINENONE BY PRODUCT

(E)-3-(6-methylthio 4-oxo 3(4H)-quinazolinyl) 2-propenoic acid and its compatible salts, are made by (a) reaction of methyl 2-amino 5-methylthio benzoate with a mixt. of equiv. amts. of DMF and SOCl2, in a halogenated hydrocarbon, pref. CHCl3; (b) treatment of the 2-N,N'-(dimethylamino-methylene) amino 5-methylthio benzoic acid methyl ester formed, in methanol soln. with ammonia at reflux temp.; and (c) reaction of the 6-methylthio 3(4H)-quinazolinone formed with tetrabutyl ammonium fluoride and methyl trans-3-chloro acrylate in THF at ambient temp.
