PURPOSE:To reduce luminance fluctuations due to variations in the number of dots turned ON even when the length of each LED is increased, by forming a common electrode on the reverse side of the element, the common electrode having a sputtering surface which defines the exposed surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:An N type conversion layer 2 and an N type GaAs0.6P0.4 3 are successively grown on an N type GaAs substrate 1. Zinc-selective diffusion regions 4 are formed, and individual electrodes 5 are provided to form light-emitting parts 6. Since the light-emitting parts 6 are arrayed in a straight line, the length of each LED is increased. A common electrode 7 is formed on the reverse side of the element using a material containing gold as a main component. This electrode 7 has a sputtering surface on the bottom side of the element. Thus, it is possible to obtain an LED for an optical printer having reduced luminance fluctuations irrespective of variations in the number of the light-emitting parts 6 which are turned ON, by eliminating the conventional electrode film on the bottom surface of the LED. |
