The apparatus comprises a first conveyor belt (2) for conveying paper rolls (3) or the like in coaxial one adjacent to another manner along a first conveying path, an upending means (5, 10) at the discharge end of the first conveyor belt, and a second conveyor belt (9) for conveying upended rolls, i.e. rolls leaving their axes upright away from the upending means and towards a packaging machine along a second conveying path. The plane of the roll receiving surface of the first conveyor belt (2) is above the plane of the roll receiving surface of the second conveyor belt (9) and the upending means comprises a quadrantal slide path (10) between the first and second conveyor belts and an upending member (5) rotatable about an axis which is transverse to the first conveying path and which is positioned above the roll receiving surface of the first conveyor belt (2) and at a level which in use corresponds to the level of the upper edge of the rolls on the first conveyor belt. The upending member (5) has a plurality of angularly spaced radially extending blades (8) the slide path (10) is coaxial with the upending member (5) and is spaced outwardly from the free ends of the blades (8). <IMAGE> |
