The invention proposes a method and an apparatus for introducing additives, in particular inoculating agents, to a metal bath. The substance to be introduced is dispensed in a metered quantity into a tube from a hopper, the additive being discharged continuously or in portions into the melt at the end of the tube, by means of a gas. By means of the method proposed and of the equipment required for this purpose, it is possible to introduce inoculating agents into a metal bath in a precisely metered quantity and in an accurately targeted and reproducible manner. <IMAGE>
