The twisted yarn is prepared by twisting (1) a single yarn comprising a water-insoluble fiber having a degree of water swelling of at least 10 cc/g or (2) a plurality of single yarns comprising a waterinsoluble fiber having a degree of water swelling of at least 10 cc/g or a plurality of yarns comprising at least 50% by weight or such single yarns and water-nonswellable yarns so that the twist constant is at least 2.5.
