This handheld hammer tool driven by a rotary electric motor (17) and a hammer (14) is contained in housing (13). The hammer (14) consists of a drive shaft (24) with an eccentric crankpin (35) for a connecting rod (43) connected to a driving piston (40) moving to and fro in a cylinder (42) to drive a hammer piston (41) against a tool via an air cushion (44) between the pistons (40, 41). The hammer (14) drive shaft (24) is also the rotor shaft of the electric motor (17), which means that the hammer and the electric motor are driven at the same speed. The electric motor is an outer pole motor with the rotor's (18) electromagnetically active parts (23, 49) situated outside the surrounding stator's (19) corresponding parts (21, 22), whereby the rotor can also serve as flywheel and fan.
