The funnel collet (1) is housed in a bell housing (2) screwed onto the spindle (3) of the lathe. The body (10) of the collet (1) is pulled inside the bore (16) so that the lateral wall of the front part (17) of the collet (1) bears on the inside of the bell housing (2). A stop (4) is guided inside the bore (16) by elastic legs (5) whose bearing surfaces come into abutment on the front end of the nose (8) of the spindle (3). The position of the stop face (6) of the stop (4) is thus independent of the degree to which the workpiece is pushed inside the bell housing (2). This makes it possible to adjust the thickness of this workpiece independently of its dimensions in the clamping direction of the collet as well as allowing the collet carrying the workpiece to be transferred without readjustment the position of this workpiece with respect to the collet. <IMAGE>
