An electrical resistor (12) according to the invention comprises a flat metal plate (12) having a thickness of 8 mil to 50 mil. A pair of electrical wires (18, 20) are attached to the ends of the metal plate (12). The side edges of the metal plate (12) are provided with a plurality of slots (14, 16) which extend inwards at a distance from one another, the grooves (14) on one side of the plate (12) being arranged offset with respect to the grooves (16) on the other side of the plate (12). Each of the grooves (14, 16) extends completely through the thickness of the plate (12) and is formed by means of a laser-beam cut which anneals the metal of the plate (12) and gives stability to the electrical characteristics of the plate (12). Once the metal plate has been formed, it can be bent into various shapes in order to give it a desired geometric shape. Furthermore, the plate (12) can be embedded in a moulding material in order to provide a protective sheath for the plate (12) (Fig. 3). <IMAGE>
