METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MAINTAINING MOLTEN-IRON CARRIAGE

PURPOSE:To carry out safely and effectively the maintenance, to shorten the maintenance time, and to reduce the number of operators by carrying out a series of maintenance operations of a molten iron carriage reciprocating between a pig-making factory and a steel-making factory on the same working over the reciprocating passage. CONSTITUTION:A metal 2 and slag at and around the opening port (b) of a molten-iron carriage (a) contg. molten iron 1 are removed by a metal remover 10 which travels on a rail 9 on a working floor 6 and from which a breaker 11 is extended to the lower part of a molten iron tapping and a molten iron receiving port 7 and 8. Then a coating machine 12 on the floor 6 coats the port (b) and the part around the port (b) with a releasing agent 3. A slag stopper 4 is mounted on the port (b) by an overhead traveling crane 13 to prevent the falling of the metal 2 which is removed by a chute 14 for preventing the scattering of the metal which is provided on the wall surface of the traveling passage of the carriage (a) below the floor 6 and to introduce the metal 2 onto a receiver carriage 15. Then the stopper 4 is removed by the crane 13 from the carriage (a) from which molten iron is discharged and the port (b) is covered with a lid 5.
