An on-load tap selector (1) for a transformer comprises a plurality of uniformly spaced-apart fixed contacts (3) and a movable carrier (4) carrying a main contact (6) and a pair of contacts (18, 19) electrically connected by an impedance (20a, 20b). During a tap selection, when the main contact (6) is moved from a chosen fixed contact (3A) to an adjacent, selected fixed contact (3B), the contacts (18, 19) maintain bridging contact with the chosen and selected fixed contacts (3A and 3B). The bridging contacts (18, 19) are mounted on a resiliently biased linkage (7) carried by the carrier (4) such that when the carrier 4 is moved in one direction A to move the main contact 6 from one fixed contact 3A to an adjacent fixed contact 3B, the trailing bridging contact 18 is cammed inwards by the fixed contact 3A to cause the leading bridging contact 19 to move away from the trailing contact 18 and engage the adjacent fixed contact 3B. <IMAGE> |
