Control system for vehicle gears to prevent vehicle moving when parked on slope

The system has a gradient sensor (10) to determine the gradient of a slop on which the vehicle is parked converting the gradient into an electric signal. A central processor CPU (70) generates from the signal a clutch control signal if the vehicle remains stationary on the slope. An hydraulic cylinder (80) generates hydraulic pressure in response to the clutch control signal. The pressure acts on a clutch cylinder (90) to maintain partial engagement of the clutch preventing the vehicle moving on the slope.
