PURPOSE:To improve contact between a head and a tape by setting the product between the angle of a tangent to a flexible magnetic recording medium, which is formed when the flexible magnetic recording medium is wound around the surface of the magnetic head, and the radius of curvature of the surface of the magnetic head, on which the recording medium is run, to a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:A reproducing element 13 and a recording element 13' are fixed, and wear-resistant layers 16 are stuck to parts where a magnetic tape 12 is brought into contact with peripheral parts of these elements 13 and 13'. Surfaces of elements 13 and 13' with which the tape 12 is brought into contact have a cylindrical shape of a curvature radius R, and the contacting length is L, and the magnetic tape 12 is wound around these contacting surfaces at a winding angle alpha. When the tape 12 is run in the direction of an arrow, the force, with which air convoluted by the tape 12 is flowed to the gap between contacting surfaces of elements 13 and 13' and the tape 12 to raise the pressure in this gap, and a tension T applied to both ends of the tape 12 are balanced, and the spacing quantity of the gap between contacting surfaces of elements 13 snd 13' and the magnetic tape 12 is held in a certain value. The spacing is shown in the figure when the angle alpha is changed to 1 deg., 1.5 deg., and 2 deg. in case of L=1.0mm. and R=20mm., and an approximately uniform spacing distribution is obtained when RXalpha is >=40mm.. deg.. |
