During the first phase of a manufacturing process for making plastified wood, the wood to be plastified is placed into vats (2) and into retainer units (3) which prevent the wood from floating. Then the vats (2) are entered into a chamber (1) wherein a total drying of the wood takes place by applying heat and a vacuum, whereafter the vats (2) are filled with a liquid or liquifiable plastic material, while continuing and maintaining said vacuum, the material flowing by gravity and being assisted by the internal vacuum. Thereafter the vacuum is suppressed in the chamber (1) and a pressure is generated within said chamber, which pressure forces the liquid plastic material to penetrate into the cellular structure of the wood. Once the wood has been sufficiently impregnated, the solidification of the plastic material is carried out so as to obtain a plastified wood. |
