The rice-growing method comprises preparing the soil, sowing it with rice, wetting the soil by watering above the soil during the whole growing period including growing intermediate crop rotation crops. The system for implementing this method comprises a field 1 divided into compartments 2 with channels for conveying water and, at the junction of two neighbouring compartments 2, an inclined zone 14 is provided which connects these compartments and allows the passage of watering machines during wetting of the field by watering above the soil. While the field 1 is submerged, dams 3 are made between the compartments 2 in the inclined zone 14 with earth reserves 20. <IMAGE>
