A cooling device is proposed, especially for switching cabinets, which has two chambers, to one of which the switching cabinet air which is to be cooled is supplied, while environmental air, which is used for cooling purposes, flows through the other. A cooling unit, with a vaporiser and a condenser as well as a compressor, is arranged in both chambers. The vaporiser is located in the chamber carrying the switching cabinet air while the condenser is arranged in the other chamber which carries the environmental air. At least one heat exchanger is seated inside the second chamber, close to the inlet and in the region between the inlet and the condenser, which heat exchanger has oil which is to be cooled flowing through it, and whose heat exchanging surfaces are in heat-exchanging contact with, and are acted on by the environmental air which is passed through the second chamber. Thus switching cabinet air, on the one hand, and oil, on the other hand, are cooled in a single cooling device with one cooling unit.
