PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set that cans simplify operations in the case of hooking off and of hooking on. SOLUTION: The portable telephone set is provided with a 1st switch that is closed when an antenna 16 is extended up to the highest position (a most extended position) and with a 2nd switch that is closed when the antenna 16 is retracted to the lowest position (a most retracted position) respectively. When the 1st switch is closed, a CPU 11 conducts hook-off processing and when the 2nd switch is closed, the CPU 11 conducts hook-on processing. Thus, a user has only to extend/retract the antenna 16 to make/interrupt a call so as to eliminate the need for operations of hook-off/hook-on buttons.
