A yarn-feed device for knitting machines has a yarn guide which is arranged at a fixed location on the machine so as not to touch the needles and which is provided with at least one open-edged yarn-guide groove which is formed on the circumference of a yarn-guide body provided with a fastening device and the bottom of which is curved arcuately, as seen in the running direction of the yarn. So that even so-called lively yarns which are difficult to process can be processed easily, the arrangement is such that the yarn-guide body is followed, on the side facing the needles, by a laterally projecting plate having an open-edged recess, the approximately triangular margin of which conforms at least partially and approximately to the contour of the needle curve in the region of the needles driven out in order to catch the yarn and which extends with its base surface with play behind the driven-out needles, the heads of the driven-out needles being at a predetermined distance from the adjacent margin of the recess located respectively above them.
