PURPOSE:The reaction between hexamethylene diamine and a hydrogen chloride gas is effected in an inert organic solvent under specific conditions and the product is allowed to react with phosgen under specific conditions to enable high- yield production of the titled compound, which is used in non-yellowing coatings, in a short time with industrial advantages. CONSTITUTION:Hexamethylene diamine (abbreviated to HDA) and an overequivalent amount of hydrogen chloride gas the simultaneously introduced into an inert organic solvent under stirring in a reactor of a tank type in the turbulent zone near the stirring blades to effect successive salt formation to give a HDA hydrochloride slurry of 10-30% concentration. The slurry is introduced into a one-stage or multi-stage tank-type reactor which is pressurized above the atmospheric pressure up to 5kg/cm<2>G and phosgen is fed so that it exists in an amount, per hour, of 1-18, preferably 5-12 times the molar amount of the HDA hydrochloride + hexamethylene diisocyanate to give the objective hexamethylene diisocyanate. |
