PURPOSE:Ceramic fibers which have been formed by the precursor fibrilation method are accumulated into a web sheet, treated with a non-aqueous finishing agent, subjected to needle punching, then roasted to produce the titled blanket with increased fiber entanglement, high bulk density and high strength. CONSTITUTION:Unroasted ceramic fibers are obtained by the precursor fibrilation method, e.g., a spinning dope containing aluminum oxychloride and a silicon compound is made into fibers, then the fibers are accumulated into a web sheet. Then, a non aqueous fiber treating agent, preferably prepared by diluting a high fatty acid ester such as lauric acid ester with n-heptane is applied to the web sheet in an amount of 0.7-0.8wt% based on the fiber sheet, and the web sheet is needle-punched so that the bulk density after roasting, preferably becomes 0.1g/ cm<3>. The resulting web is roasted, preferably at 1,200-1,300 deg.C to remove the fiber-treating agent whereby the objective blanket is obtained. |
