Chair which can be converted into a bed, comprising a base part 1A and a seat part 1B which are superposable and articulated to each other about an axis of articulation X-X which is located along adjacent edges of their front faces in the chair configuration of the piece of furniture, as well as a mattress 12 which, in this configuration, is folded up between the said base and seat parts 1A, 1B, characterised in that each of the said base and seat parts 1A, 1B comprises a single-piece unit 9A, 9B made from foam material in which a stiffening framework 17A, 17B is embedded, in that the said mattress 12 is housed in cavities 11A, 11B provided, respectively, in the single-piece units, and in that the seat part 1B has, on the side opposite the cavity 11B for the mattress, a recess 3 for housing a seat cushion 4. <IMAGE>
