PURPOSE:To obtain the titled metal base composite material having high strength and high quality by embedding a large quantity of composite fibers in which the surface of W fiber or SiC fiber is coated with B to obtain sp. gr. approximated to that of aluminum, into an aluminum matrix. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of high strength W fiber or SiC fiber, B is coated at about 1,500 deg.K using gaseous mixture of BCl3+H2 as reaction gas by chemical vapor deposition method, further, the quantity of B having small sp. gr. and vapor deposited to W fiber or SiC fiber as core fiber having larger sp. gr. than that of aluminum and about <=50mum thickness is controlled to obtain the composite fiber having sp. gr. 0.95-1.1 times that of aluminum. The composite fibers are cut to about 5-25mm., mixed with aluminum base metal bath and stirred, then cast, injection molded, and the high strength, high quality aluminum metal base composite material is obtained.
