The invention relates to a folding rule having rule links pivotably fixed to one another, on the broad side of which a scale is arranged. In order in the case of such folding rules to permit the user to read off exactly in a convenient fashion, in at least one rule link (1, 2) the scale division (7) extends onto the longitudinal narrow side (11, 17) adjoining the broad sides (4, 16) or onto a chamfer or radiused part (9, 13, 14, 21, 24, 26) of the longitudinal rim between these sides. It is achieved as a result that when a rule link is placed with a broad side onto the measurement object the scale division of the scale reaches to the measurement object virtually without a spacing. <IMAGE>
