The invention relates to a device for applying transfers which are gummed on the rear on to the peripheral surface of articles, preferably hollow bodies which are open on one side, with a driving and clamping device for an object, by means of which device the object can be rotated in the direction of its peripheral surface, and with a transport device, on which the transfers, which are still sticking to a backing and have already been soaked in water are fed to a delivery position, from which they are transferred to the peripheral surface of the object. The invention is characterised in that a transfer element with a supporting surface for the transfers is provided in addition, which supporting surface is movable from an initial position, in which it is located above the delivery position, past the object held in the driving and clamping device into a second position on a plane which is tangential to a region of the peripheral surface of the object held in the driving and clamping device, and in that the supporting surface can also be moved simultaneously to and from this plane.
