PURPOSE:To make effective use of picture elements on an FET side and to improve the visibility around a parting plate by forming the picture elements consisting of only the color filter layers of several picture elements or above to the peripheries of the picture element region where the quantity of light is controlled by a liquid crystal shutter. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal display device consists of substrates 1, 3, picture element electrodes 2, the three-color filter layers 4, a transparent electrode 11 over the entire surface, a spacer 5, a nematic liquid crystal sealed between the substrates 1 and 3, polarizing plates 6, 7 and a parting plate 8. The picture elements of the color filters are increased to the peripheries by as much as several picture elements (one picture element in the figure). The direct incidence of the color from a back light 9 onto the naked eyes is thus ovbiated and the visibility around the plate 8 is improved. |
