The device has a roller head (6), which, to feed the web (1) of material onto the reel shaft (4), has nips (10.3, 11.3) which are arranged essentially vertically above one another and through which the web passes, and is adjustable on a machine frame in an essentially horizontal guide transversely to the reel shaft (4). A pressure head (51) is used to wind the web up on the reel shaft (4), which head (51) is mounted in an adjustment device (57, 64) so as to be pivotable about an axis parallel to the reel shaft (4) and can be brought, via an adjustment path which is at least as long as the radius of the largest reel (2', 2'') to be wound on the reel shaft, so far towards the shaft (4), that its pivoting axis (63) is aligned with the axis of the reel shaft (4) and the pressure head (51) can be pivoted about the reel shaft (4) between an initial position and an end position (51'') which is less than one complete revolution away from the initial position, in the direction of rotation of the reel shaft (4). The pressure head (5) forms in the initial position, together with the reel shaft (4), an upwardly open inlet nip (67), for starting the reeling of the web end. The latter can be pressed radially against the winding shaft (4) and, in the pressed-on state, moves with the reel shaft (4) until the end position is reached. The pressure head (51), which is then released from the reel shaft (4) once again, is returned from the end position into the initial position by means of a return element. <IMAGE>
