PURPOSE:To reduce the fluorine content and improve the activity, by reacting uranium hexafluoride with an excess alcohol in the gaseous form in the first reaction zone, and feeding steam to the second reaction zone in which the resultant hydrocarbon formed in the first reaction zone is burned. CONSTITUTION:Uranium hexafluoride is reacted with an excess amount of a lower alcohol in the gaseous form in the first reaction zone. The resultant hydrocarbon in the first reaction zone and the above-mentioned gaseous alcohol in the excess amount are burned with an oxygen-containing gas fed separately thereto in the second reaction zone. An adjusted volume of steam is separately fed to the second reaction zone. According to the above-mentioned method, the aimed uranium oxide powder with a low fluorine content having retained activity is obtained.
