The mutually engaging surfaces of a pair of machine parts (1,4) having different friction coefficients in different directions, provided by harder (2) or softer areas (3) (e.g. parallel lines) on at least one of the surfaces. The harder areas can be provided by case hardening or surface hardening (e.g. laser hardening) or by doping with particles of harder material. Softer areas can be provided by doping with particles of softer material. In a shaft-hub joint (e.g. a press-fit or shrinkage-fit joint) the harder areas may be either in parallel to the axis of ratation, or helical. In the case of mutually movable machine parts, the harder areas can extend at right angles to the motion. |
