PURPOSE:To attain satisfactory reproduction by recording the signal produced from a reference signal given from a reference signal generator on a tape as a control signal when a sound signal accompanied by no video signal is recorded. CONSTITUTION:A reference signal generator 11 can produce a reference signal having extremely high accuracy with use of a quartz, etc. The frequency f0 of a reference output signal 18 is equal to the frequency of a recording control signal 17 produced when a vertical synchronizing signal is supplied through a terminal 16. Therefore the control signal can be recorded on a tape like a video signal even in case only the sound signal accompanied by no video signal is recorded by rotary heads 3 and 4. Then the recorded control signal is reproduced and therefore both heads 3 and 4 can trace accurately over a pattern of sound signals. Thus the reproduction is possible with satisfactory sound quality.
