PURPOSE:To achieve horizontal deflection enlarging function at the slit section without deteriorating the linearity of horizontal deflection rate by gradually increasing the width in vertical direction of slit of box slit lens from the central section toward the opposite end sections in horizontal direction thereafter decreasing gradually. CONSTITUTION:A box slit lens 9 is a combination of first electrode 14 at the target side, second intermediate electrode 13 and third electrode 12 at the electron gun side and constructed with thin metal plate into a fan-shaped box. The vertical width D1 in the center of slit 27 will increase gradually toward the opposite ends to D2 then decrease to D3. Convex equi-potential face is produced in the central area in the horizontal direction of slit 27 to provide deflection enlarging effect onto an electron beam deflected horizontally. While since the width of the slit 27 is enlarged gradually then restricted, deterioration of the linearity of horizontal deflection rate is blocked.
