PURPOSE:To eliminate the decrease in the reading function occuring in filters and an increase in the size of a device by equipping filters for color sepn. into respective plural image forming lenses for scanning a color original. CONSTITUTION:A lamp 12 emits light and moves integrally with a plane mirror 14 from a solid line position to a broken line position and scanning is thus executed when the device is operated after the color original O to be read is placed on placing glass. The luminous flux from the color original O is conducted via the three image forming lenses 20, 22, 24 to solid-state image pickup elements 26, 28, 30 by which the luminous flux is image formed; respective lens 20, 22, 24 have the same construction for example, the lens 20 contains the lens 21 constituted of red colored glass having a filter function. The lens 22 contains a lens having a green filter function and the lens 24 contains a lens having a blue filter function. The color image of the color original O is thus read after the image is separated to three primary colors red, blue and green.
