HEATING METHOD OF MOLTEN STEEL

PURPOSE:To compensate the decrease in the temp. of a molten steel and to obtain a billet having no deviation in quality by providing a gate having a passage hole for a molten steel in a tundish and conducting electricity to electrodes disposed with the gate in-between thereby heating preferentially the molten steel passing through the hole of the gate. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel supplied into tundish 12 passes through the passage hole 4 for the molten steel drilled to the gate 3 and is poured through a nozzle 5 into a casting mold 6. Electric current is supplied to the electrodes 7, 8 immersed into the molten steel with the gate 3 in-between at the same instant when continuous casting is started then a closed conducting circuit is formed by the molten steel 2 existing between the electrodes 7 and 8. The resistance in the hole part 4 is made highest in this stage and the molten steel 2 in the hole 4 is preferentially heated. The supply electric power is efficiently used for heating the molten metal by the above-mentioned method. Since the casting temp. is maintained with high accuracy, the billet having dense structure without variance in quality is obtd.
