In a device for scaring away wild animals, particularly fawns subject to a high risk of injury when hay is being mown, comprising an alarm device (6) arranged in a housing (1) and exhibiting at least one signal transmitter (4 and 5), the alarm device (6) can be operated by means of a programme switching device (9), which can be activated or deactivated by a light sensor, in accordance with a predetermined programme repeating itself whilst maintaining prolonged pauses. As a result, the mature animals are not only reliably startled but, at the same time, are given the opportunity of fetching their young out of the zone of danger, following a natural instinct during the pauses. <IMAGE>
