The description is given of an installation for cooling, preferably for re-cooling thermal power stations with the aid of cooling towers, atmospheric air being supplied from below to the cooling tower via a structure. The air flows from below to the windward edge of the highest building in the upwind, over the building in free flow, and in the trailing run and behind the leeside of the building, sheltered from the wind, as the falling wind into the cooling tower. In the case of such an installation, it is provided according to the invention that, by virtue of a wind shield erected at the upper windward edge, the upwind region is increased and, behind the wind shield, the trailing-run region is extended to the leeward edge of the building. It is also provided according to the invention that, by means of a guiding surface at the leeward edge, the free flow is diverted to the side of the building sheltered from the wind and the falling wind is intensified.
