PURPOSE:To prevent a pinion from separating, by applying resilient pressing force for a certain length of time so as to press the pinion of a turning device having a reduction gear mechanism, to a condition, in which the pinion is meshed with a load gear, and starting turning operation. CONSTITUTION:A turning device provides a clutch pinion 14 to be held by a crank lever 16 in a position where the clutch pinion 14 is engaged with a ring gear 15 provided in a turbine rotor. The turning device, when it is started, switches a toggle spring 34 to a direction holding a connecting condition overcoming the force holding a separating condition by supplying air 44 to an air cylinder 29 and rotating a shaft 23 through levers 28, 27 so as to actuate a connection detecting limit switch 32. And the pinion 14 is engaged with the ring gear 15 by rotating through the levers 18, 17 the crank lever 16 around an idle gear shaft 25 serving as the center. |
